The United States National Football Team (USMNT) represents the United States in men's international soccer competitions. The team is controlled by the United States Soccer Federation and is a member of FIFA and Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF).
The team has appeared in ten FIFA World Cups, including the first in 1930, where they reached the semifinals and officially placed third, the best finish of any country outside of UEFA and CONMEBOL during the World Cup. After participating again in 1934 and 1950, the US did not qualify for a new World Cup until 1990. After hosting the 1994 World Cup, the team qualified for five consecutive World Cups, became one of the regular tournaments and often progressed to the knockout stages. The US reached the quarterfinals of the 2002 World Cup, their best finish in modern times.
The United States' best appearance in a men's FIFA men's tournament came in the 2009 Confederations Cup, where they eliminated senior Spain in the semifinals before losing to Brazil's final. The team failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and ended their series of consecutive World Cups at seven. The US will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup together with Canada and Mexico.
The United States also participates in continental tournaments, including the CONCACAF Gold Cup and Copa América. The US has won six Gold Cups and placed fourth in two Copa Américas, including the 2016 edition. The team's head coach is Gregg Berhalter and the general manager is Earnie Stewart.
