US Anconita ASD is an Italian football club from Ancona, Marche.
The club was founded in 1905 as Unione Sportiva Anconitana and changed its name to Ancona Calcio 1905 in 1981. Before and shortly after the Second World War the club played in the Serie B but could only return to that level in 1988. In 1990 the club was club fifth and two years later even a promotion to Serie A followed. The club could not stand and had to take a step back. In the 2016/17 season, the club will play in the Lega Pro B
The following season, the final of the battle for the Coppa Italia was reached, but the club lost to Sampdoria. After the promotion was missed several times, the club was relegated from Serie B in 1996, after one season the club returned but could not stand. The return in 2000 was more successful and in 2003 the club was promoted back to Serie A.
Ancona's second season in Serie A (2003/04 season) was one of the most catastrophic ever for a Serie A club. Ancona failed to win 28 games in a row and finished the season with 13 meager points. After this, the club went bankrupt and relegated to Serie C2. The club was re-established as AC Ancona and promoted to Serie C1 in 2006. In the 2007/08 season, Ancona finished second in Serie C1 and was promoted to Serie B. In 2010, another bankruptcy followed, forcing the club to restart from the Eccellenza in Marche. The club eventually returned to the third level, but had to pay for it with a new bankruptcy in 2017. Under the name US Anconita ASD, the club tries to make up for the lost ground. After two successive promotions, the club will play in the Eccellanza Marche at the fifth Italian football level in the 2019/20 season.
