Original Hummel football shirt Telstar 2010/11

Telstar is a professional football club from Velsen-IJmuiden. The club was founded on 17 July 1963 when the rivals VSV from IJmuiden and Stormvogels from IJmuiden decided to merge their professional divisions and continue as amateur clubs themselves. The new club was named Telstar, after the recently launched communications satellite. Telstar lived up to its name through a partnership, by being the satellite club of AFC Ajax for a number of seasons from the 1985/86 season.

Telstar plays its home games at the Schoonenberg sports park. From 2021, BUKO will be the namesake of the stadium. Since its foundation in 1963, the football club has used the song Telstar by The Tornados as the opening tune for its home games.
