The Auxerrois Stadium is a multi-sport club based in the city of Auxerre.
With around 2,500 licensees in 15 various disciplines (athletics, badminton, basketball, billiards, Sport-boules, cyclosport, football, pétanque, skateboard, tarot, tennis, volleyball, athletic strength and e-sport), it is the largest sports club in the Yonne department1. The Auxerrois Stadium also has a handisport basketball section.
The Auxerrois Stadium was born in 1942 from the merger of two Auxerroises associations, the Alliance Vélo-Sportif auxerroise (AVSA), founded in 1904 and the Etoile Sportive Auxerroise (ESA) founded in 1884.
He was the local rival of AJ Auxerre in the 1950s and 1960s where political and religious ideology mingled with the sporting aspect. Between the secular club of the city (Stade Auxerrois) and the Catholic Patronage Club (AJA), the matches reflected the oppositions of the time. Today, the Auxerrois Stadium is still a popular club. The football section represents its most important discipline with around 400 licensees.
The club's headquarters and stadium are located at the Stade de l'Arbre-Sec, provided by the municipality of Auxerre. Most of the activities take place at the Stade auxerrois facilities and in various city facilities (Vaulabelle room, Vélodrome, gymnasiums). Its historic colors are blue and gold.
For more than 75 years, the football section of the Stade Auxerrois has been welcoming and supporting young people in playing football. Today, the association has two labels awarded by the French Football Federation which rewards structured clubs: the Young “Excellence” Label and the “Bronze” Women's Football School Label.
The Stade Auxerrois club is currently playing in Regional 1. Former French international Lionel Mathis has been coaching the first team since 2017. The reserve team is playing in Regional 3. Stade Auxerrois took part in the first editions of the Coupe de France of soccer. For the first match in its history in the competition, it was opposed to AJ Auxerre and won in the Yonne derby with a score of 6 goals to 1.
French international and 1994 Coupe de France winner Pascal Vahirua played for the club between 2002 and 2005 after retiring from a professional player. Kuami Agboh, Togolese international, played at the club between 2008 and 2011.
The Auxerrois stadium has different youth teams from U13 to U19 which all play at a regional level.
