Litex Lovech was founded in 1923 as Chisarja. In 1957 the club took the name ‘’Christo Karpatsjev’’. The club played in the second division from 1962 to 1994, with the exception of the 1973/74 season. From 1980 to 1991 the club played as Osam Lovech and from 1991 to 1995 as Lex Lovech.
The first season the club finished 11th but the following season Lovech was relegated, this was a turnaround for the club. Businessman Grisha Gantsjev bought the club and renamed it Litex Lovech, the players were fired and better players were brought in. The club became champions with a 10 point lead and were promoted again to 1st. For the first time in Bulgarian football history a promoted team immediately became champions in the highest division. In the first preliminary round of the Champions League, the Swedish Halmstads BK was still pushed aside, but in the second round Spartak Moscow was too strong. The following year, the title was won again.
The club is also the proud record holder of inflicting the country's biggest club with its heaviest defeat, Litex defeated CSKA Sofia 8-0 in 1998. In October 2001, it was also the first Bulgarian club to eliminate a German team in Europe, although it should be noted that 1. FC Union Berlin was playing in the second division at the time and had qualified for the UEFA Cup as a cup finalist. In 2015, the club was expelled from the current competition due to financial problems. In 2016, the club will start again in the third division. After one season, the club was promoted.
