Hakim Ziyech was sold to AFC Ajax on August 30. Torgeir Børven was initially loaned to SK Brann until January 2017. He returned to FC Twente during the winter break. At the end of January, his one-and-a-half-year contract was terminated. After his contract, which lasted until July 2016, Giorgos Katsikas initially trained without a contract with FC Twente and also played in exhibition games during this period. In August 2016, his contract was extended for a year. However, he played little and left for Esbjerg fB in January.

Jari Oosterwijk was rented to NAC Breda on January 31 for half a year. Kyle Ebecilio was returned to the selection of Jong FC Twente in December 2017. In March 2017, his contract was terminated. From the selection of Jong FC Twente, goalkeeper Nick Hengelman and attacker Dylan George sat on the reserve bench during official matches of the first selection. Hengelman did not come to playing time. Dylan George made his debut in the first in this season.
