The 2012/13 season of FC Schalke 04 was the 109th year in German professional football for the club from Gelsenkirchen. The club played in Germany and took part in the DFB-Pokal tournament. Internationally, Schalke was one of the participants in the UEFA Champions League.
Trainer-coach Jens Keller stood by the field throughout the season; in May 2013, his contract was extended by two years. Under Keller's management, Schalke won 16 of their 34 league matches to finish in fourth place, securing a place in the play-offs for qualification for the following season's Champions League.
In the cup tournament, the club lost in the third round to later quarter-finalist 1. FSV Mainz 05:1–2. Klaas-Jan Huntelaar recovered from a 0–1 deficit in the 75th minute. Nicolai Müller scored the winning goal for Mainz 05 eight minutes later.
Top scorer of the season was attacker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar with ten hits in 34 league matches and six in the other two leagues.
