1923
The Belgian football team won Olympic gold in Antwerp in 1920, more precisely
in the Beerschot stadium. This gave rise to a wave of enthusiasm and a rising
popularity of football. Belgian football is on the rise.
For example, the Bosuil stadium will be opened with a gala match between Belgium and
England.
This also inspired some young men from the St-Andrieskwartier, in
in the heart of Antwerp, who were affiliated with the St.Andries circle.
In an unspecified cremeric they put their heads together and decided
to found a football team under the name “Arbeid en Kunst”, given both the stage and
if the singing group of the St. Andries circle had the same name.
It was mainly under the impulse of Jan Noydens that the new football team was founded,
this in collaboration with Guillaume Maggelet, Karel Heeb and Armand Van der Heyden.
Initially, the colors in which “Labour and art” played were dark and light blue
vertically striped, but after a year the light blue was replaced by green, so that the
colors green and blue became the club colours. The only motivation for this choice for
these colors was that they were the cheapest.
