Oxford United is a football club from the English university city of Oxford, which was founded in 1893 under the name Headington United (The addition United was added one year after it was founded, before that they simply went through life as Headington). The old stadium Manor Ground stood in Headington in the east of the city until 2001.
Oxford United played in Football League Two, England's fourth and third league of the Football League, until 2016. This league is the lowest professional football league in England. In the 2005/2006 season, the club was temporarily relegated from the League Two. From that moment on, Oxford United played in the Blue Square Premier, the highest amateur level in England. In the first season in this competition, Oxford United seemed to be promoted, but in the play-offs they were no longer involved. The Kassam Stadium where Oxford United play can accommodate 12,573 spectators.
