Motherwell FC is a Scottish football club based in Motherwell in North Lanarkshire. It was founded in 1886.
The first club colors were blue but in 1913 that changed to amber and wine red, it is the only club in Scotland that uses these colors, in England Bradford City also uses these colors.
The advance of the club started after WWI and in 1932 the league title was won for the only time in history. Willie MacFayden scored 52 times that season, which is still a Scottish record.
In 1968, a relegation to the 2nd division followed, but the club was able to return after one season. The Scottish Cup was won for a second time in 1991 after a win over Dundee United.
After the 2002/03 season, the club was supposed to be relegated but did not do so because Falkirk FC could not promote to the first level because the club did not meet the criteria to play in 1st division.
On December 29, 2007, their captain, Phil O'Donnell, passed away after becoming unwell on the field of play.
