ASWH is a football club from Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. The club was founded by five friends on August 1, 1929 and plays in the Second Division (2020/21). In 2005, ASWH became champion in the Dutch big league, to later also claim the Saturday title and the league title. The club also caused a sensation by beating the first divisionist Cambuur Leeuwarden (4-2) in the second round of the 2006/07 KNVB Cup. On October 29, 2013, ASWH took on AFC Ajax in the third round of the KNVB Cup 2013/14 in the Amsterdam ArenA. The club lost 4-1. The highlight of the club's history is ultimately the cup match at the end of November in 2015. At the time, ASWH was allowed to compete against v.v. Groede, an impregnable fortress that the Ambachters managed to beat with a 1-3 victory.
In the early years the club was called ASW. For a long time there has been disagreement about the meaning of the name. Some thought that the letters stand for Always Getting Stronger. However, there were also people who claimed that it always meant Sports We.
The ASWH club colors are black and white. These colors were chosen for practical reasons: almost everyone has black pants and a white shirt at home, so everyone could easily participate.
During the Second World War there was no football at ASW. The board refused to sign a declaration of loyalty to the Germans and therefore the club was no longer allowed to play. After the war, loyal members rebuilt the club. To distinguish itself from ASW, the name of the club will from that moment on be ASWH (Always Sterker Worden Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht).
ASWH plays at Sportpark Schildman, the sports field in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht. On average there are 500-750 spectators at the matches, at larger matches an average of 750-1250. Sportpark Schildman also plays football club IFC, tennis club Hiaten and korfball club DVS '69. As of August 2015, the club will play its home games on artificial turf.
