The Scottish Premiership is the highest football division in Scotland. The league was established in July 2013 following the abolition of the Scottish Premier League. The league consists of 12 clubs that meet 3 times in the regular season, for a total of 33 matches per club. At the end of the season, the competition is split into a champion group and a relegation group. The top 6 clubs of the ranking play in the champions group and meet there once for a total of 5 matches per club. The total number of matches thus amounts to 38 matches per club. The same principle applies to the relegation group, with the club that ultimately finishes in twelfth and last place is relegated to the Scottish Championship. The number eleven of the final ranking will play a play-off for promotion/relegation against the number 2, 3 or 4 of the Scottish Championship.
The numbers 1 and 2 qualify for the third and second qualifying round of the Champions League respectively. The cup winner qualifies for the play-offs of the Europa League. The numbers 3 and 4 qualify for the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League.
