Manchester City FC is an English football club founded in 1880 as West Gorton Saint Marks. In 1887 the name was changed to Ardwick F.C. and in 1894 it became Manchester City FC. The club plays its home games at the Etihad Stadium.
After winning an FA Cup and a league title twice, the club reached its peak in the late 1960s, early 1970s. At the time trainer Joe Mercer had players like Francis Lee, Colin Bell, Mike Summerbee and Mike Doyle at his disposal. The club quickly won a league title, an FA Cup, a League Cup and in 1970, in Vienna, won the European Cup II at the expense of Górnik Zabrze (2-1).
44 years after the championship title in 1968, Manchester City took the championship title again on 13 May 2012 by beating Queens Park Rangers in the last minute. In 2014, Manchester City repeated this fact by beating West Ham United 2-0 on the last day of play. Led by Manuel Pellegrini, the club picked up the so-called League Cup Double that season, as City had already won the League Cup, after a 3-1 win over Sunderland AFC.
