FC Groningen is a football club from the city of Groningen. The FC was founded on June 16, 1971 and originated from the Groninger Voetbal en Athletiek Vereniging (GVAV). In the early years, the club struggled to remain financially viable, but in recent years the association has been regarded as a stable organization that belongs to the middle bracket in the Netherlands. The club colors are based on the colors of the city of Groningen: green and white. The home games were played in the Oosterpark Stadium until 2006, and from January 2006 in the Euroborg, which was renamed NoordLease Stadium in 2016 and became the Hitachi Capital Mobility Stadium in 2018. In the UEFA ranking of the best clubs in Europe, FC Groningen was in 159th place in 2020 with 7,150 points, which is a decrease of 5 positions compared to 2019. In the 2014/2015 season, the club won the KNVB Cup.
