Mikkel Venge Beck(Aarhus, 12 May 1973) is a Danish former professional footballer who preferred to play in the centre of attack. In England, Beck played in the Premier League with Middlesbrough and Derby County. Beck played 19 international matches for the Danish national football team and participated in Euro 1996 and Euro 2000.
In March 1999, when it was still legal, he swapped Middlesbrough for then first division club Derby County. Derby paid £500,000 for Beck to Middlesbrough. Memorable for the club was his late equaliser against Southampton in October 1999 (3–3), with the then recently acquired Beck saving Derby's skin in the battle against relegation early in the season. Derby eventually finished sixteenth and maintained their position in the Premier League. In November 1999 he was loaned to Nottingham Forest for two months, but Derby called him back after most of their forwards were injured. In February 2000 Derby loaned him to Queens Park Rangers for three months. The reason Beck was loaned was because he no longer had any prospect of playing time due to the epic arrival of Branko Strupar, the former Belgian striker and Golden Boot winner from KRC Genk. Beck was no longer in the top drawer under then Derby manager Jim Smith.
