The Eerste Divisie (also known as the Kitchen Champion Division because of sponsorship rights) is the second highest football competition in the Netherlands that the KNVB organizes. It is the lowest division where professional football is played. The competition is officially called Keuken Kampioen Division, after the main sponsor Keuken Kampioen. Until 2018, the division was called the Jupiler League.
In the Eerste Divisie, an entire competition is played with twenty clubs. This means that the clubs will meet at home and away, with each team completing 38 games per season. The regular season usually starts in August and usually ends in April, with a winter break in January. Unlike the Eredivisie, matches are played around the international matches, unless there are clubs that object not to play and have the match played at another time. The play-off matches usually take place in the month of May.
