Chesterfield Football Club is an English semi-professional football club based in Chesterfield, Derbyshire. The team plays in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football system. Chesterfield play their home games at Technique Stadium (10,504 capacity), having left their historic home of Saltergate in the summer of 2010. The club's biggest rival is nearby Mansfield Town FC.
The club has never played in the highest division, but has played 21 seasons at the second level. In 1997 the club stunted by reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup, only to be defeated there by Middlesbrough FC. In 2000, Chesterfield relegated to the lowest professional level, but one season later they returned to the Second Division, which was renamed League One in 2004. In 2007, Chesterfield relegated to League Two, this time spending four seasons before becoming the champion. However, they were relegated from League One after one season (2011/12). In 2011, Dave Allen became the new owner of the club and under his rule Chesterfield won the Football League Trophy in 2012 at the expense of Swindon Town. The club became champions in League Two in 2014, this time staying in League One for three seasons. Two consecutive relegations saw the club relegated from the English Football League at the end of the 2017/18 season and thus play in the National League.
