PUMA SE is a German company that produces sports goods. She is based in Herzogenaurach in Bavaria. The company was founded in 1948 by Rudolf Dassler as "PUMA Schuhfabrik Rudolf Dassler". Since 2007 Puma has been part of the French conglomerate Kering (at that time still called PPR).
Puma is one of the largest manufacturers of sports equipment in the world with approximately 1.5 billion euros in turnover and 3,910 employees (2004). Sponsorship contracts with well-known athletes were concluded for the marketing.
Puma AG arose after a family quarrel between the brothers Adolf and Rudolf Dassler. Together they ran the Gebrüder Dassler Sportschuhfabrik (Gebroeders Dassler Sport Shoes Factory) from the 1920s until just after the Second World War.
Due to a family feud, cooperation after the war was no longer possible and in 1948 Rudolf started for himself: he founded Puma AG, while his brother renamed the Gebrüder Dassler Sportschuhfabrik into adidas. Both companies are located in Herzogenaurach, so that the city is still split in two camps.
