The Belgium national football team is a team of male football players that has represented Belgium in international competitions since 1904.
The team is governed by the Royal Belgian Football Association, the Belgian football federation that was a founding member of FIFA (founded 1904) and UEFA (founded 1954). The majority of home games are played at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The nickname of the Belgian team is the Red Devils (French: les Diables rouges; German: die Roten Teufel; English: Red Devils). This nickname was coined in 1906 by Pierre Walckiers, a manager of the club Leopold FC.
The greatest achievements of the Belgian national team to date have been a gold medal at the 1920 Olympic Games, second place at the 1980 European Championship, third place at the 2018 World Championship and fourth place at the 1986 World Championship and six consecutive participations in world championships between 1982 and 2002. Other notable achievements include four wins against the then reigning world champions: 2–0 against West Germany in 1954, 5–1 against Brazil in 1963, 1–0 against Argentina in 1982 and 2–1 against France in 2002.
The Belgian fans are united in the national supporters federation 1895. Belgium's biggest rival is the Dutch national team. Between 1905 and 1964 (with the exception of the war periods) the two countries usually fought each other twice a year; Even after this period, the Belgian national team played against the Netherlands on a regular basis.
Jan Vertonghen is the Belgian record international with 134 international matches. Romelu Lukaku has scored 68 goals for the national team so far, making it the top scorer.
