Original Umbro football shirt Bara GIF

Bara GIF (Bara Gymnastik o Idrottsförening) is a sports association from the town of Bara in Skåne about 10km east of Malmö, the club has about 400 members.

The club was started in 1966 by Hans "Hasse" Hardenstedt. From the beginning, the club only included gymnastics, where another zealot, named Erling Nielsen, resided. In the early 70s, football was started by, among others, Curt Johansson. The club was then comprised of only one team, where all young people interested in football played. When the resort was expanded, the number of football teams also increased, and several sections were started such as mini racing, volleyball, handball and table tennis.

Nowadays, it is only football that both exists in the club and has competitive activities. Only GIF's men's team now plays in Division 6.

Only GIF's main rivals are the clubs around Svedala municipality. The clubs that are Bara GIF's main rivals in the municipality are Svedala IF and Klågerups GIF.
