Amsterdamsche Football Club (abbreviated to AFC) is an amateur football club from Amsterdam. AFC was founded on January 18, 1895 and is the oldest football association in Amsterdam. The club is also referred to as The Reds. This nickname is related to the AFC red shirt. There is also a black V on the shirt.
The standard team of the Sunday division has been at the highest amateur level since 1961, with a break of three seasons (1998-2001). They played respectively in the First Division (1961-1974), the Dutch Major League (1974-1998, 2001-2010), the Top Class (2010-2016) and the Second Division (from 2016). The 33 seasons in the Dutch big league at the highest amateur level resulted in the 2nd place in the 'Ranking of all times' of the Sunday big league.
AFC became top class champion in the 2013/14 season. From the 2016/17 season, AFC will play in the Second Division. In 2019, the team managed to win this competition, making it the best amateur club in the Netherlands for the first time in history.
The Saturday standard team will return to the First Division with effect from the 2018/19 season, after relegation from the Dutch big league. This class was achieved after two consecutive class championships in 2015/16 (2nd class) and 2016/17 (1st class).
